Skopje – The exhibition "The Heritage of Light" was officially opened in the gallery of the International University "Europa Prima" - Skopje, dedicated to the work of one of the most significant Macedonian artists and icon painters of the 19th century, Dicho Zograf, organized by the Academia Balkanica Europeana, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Dicho Zograf (1819–1872) is one of the most prolific and most respected representatives of the Macedonian icon painting tradition. His creative oeuvre includes over 2,000 icons and numerous fresco paintings, present in all countries of the Balkans, which define and convey the spiritual and cultural heritage of Macedonia from that period. With his style, he represents a bridge between traditional Byzantine aesthetics and contemporary artistic influences of his time. The exhibition presents a careful selection of high-quality photographs of its most significant icons, revealing their history, symbolism and meaning in the cultural context. This event is intended to be the initial part of a broader cultural project aimed at raising awareness of the significance of Macedonian cultural heritage. In the future, the project will include workshops and lectures with experts in the field of art and cultural heritage, will develop as a traveling cultural event through cities in Macedonia, with the prospect of presenting in international cultural centers and creating a digital platform available globally. The exhibition will be open until the end of September.
